Punjab Kings face Mumbai Indians in a must-win clash to strengthen their playoff hopes, but a looming rain threat in Dharamshala during match time could impact Punjab Kings’ chances. The Dharamshala weather forecast indicates a high 55% to 60% chance of rain and thunderstorms for tonight’s match, making a rain interruption or a complete washout highly possible. The Indian Meteorological Department has issued a ‘Yellow Alert’ for the Kangra Valley, as heavy downpours and overcast skies have already disrupted pre-match practice sessions at the HPCA Stadium. Punjab Kings currently sit in 4th place with 13 points and a Net Run Rate (NRR) of +0.428 from 11 matches. They are closely pursued by Chennai Super Kings (+0.185 NRR) and Rajasthan Royals (+0.082 NRR), who both have 12 points. If the IPL 2026 clash in Dharamsala is washed out due to rain, both teams will receive one point each, resulting in a “No Result.” However, with Mumbai Indians already mathematically eliminated from the playoff race, the shared points would have very different consequences for the two sides.

What it means for Punjab Kings (PBKS)

A washout would take PBKS to 14 points, helping them maintain a slight cushion over chasing teams like Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals, who are both currently on 12 points. However, the bigger concern for Punjab would be the impact on their top-two hopes. A no-result would cap their maximum possible points tally at 18 if they go on to win their remaining two matches against Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Lucknow Super Giants. That would significantly reduce their chances of overtaking table-toppers RCB and Gujarat Titans, both of whom already sit on 16 points. It would also mark Punjab’s second abandoned game of the season, making them the only team in the current top four relying on split points rather than outright victories.

What it means for Mumbai Indians (MI)

For Mumbai Indians, who are already out of playoff contention, a washout would mainly deny them the opportunity to play spoiler against a direct rival in the playoff race. The single point would, however, move MI slightly ahead of Lucknow Super Giants in the lower half of the table, marginally helping their effort to avoid finishing at the bottom of the standings.
